We had ‘Great Expectations’ of a fun packed day at The Meadows for World Book Day and we were not disappointed!

Staff and students prepared an excellent, creative display in the school foyer, with a wide selection of reading books being enjoyed.

There was work covering classics, such as Gulliver’s Travels and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, with a look at more modern stories such as The Mr Men Books and the Percy Jackson series.

Students working from home submitted photos of themselves reading at home, and one student in school was photographed with her feet on the table, reading from a swivel chair in Mr Best’s office…it must have been lunchtime!  There are some great pictures of staff and students reading in the school grounds and at home, with several folk enjoying a good read in the Spring sunshine. Optimistic staff were spotted reading books entitled, ‘ The Holiday’ and the Yorkshire Shepherdess!  We can but dream!

The highlight of the day was organised by ‘Our Mutual Friend’, Mr Harvey who held a competition called The Masked Reader, where staff recorded a favourite poem or rhyme, with their faces disguised by a comic filter on the computer screen. This proved to be hilarious. Mr Pritchard’s class won the prize for the most correct answers.

It was a dicken’s of a day!  Thanks everyone. Keep calm and carry on reading!
